NSA Crane JLUS – Public Comment Period Closed

The public comment period to provide feedback on the Public Draft JLUS ended at midnight on December 1, 2016. All comments received will be compiled and forwarded to the NSA Crane JLUS Policy Committee for review and consideration in the Pre-Final Draft JLUS documents.

 

 

Public Forum #3 Held – November 15, 16, & 17, 2016

The third and final set of Public Forums for the NSA Crane JLUS were held in Lawrence County at the Life Tabernacle Church in Springville, IN on November 15, 2016 at 6 pm; in Daviess, Greene, and Martin Counties at the WestGate Academy in Odon, IN on November 16, 2016 at 6 pm; and in Sullivan County at the Sullivan Middle School in the City of Sullivan, IN on November 17, 2016 at 7 pm.

At this Public Forum, a status update on the project was provided; key recommendations were reviewed, and the public had an opportunity to provide comments and feedback on public Draft JLUS documents which were released on November 1, 2016. During the Forum, attendees were provided a presentation of the JLUS project and status update, review of compatibility area maps, and how the public can continue to provide comments through the remainder of the Public Review period. The Forums concluded with an overview of Next Steps and a Question and Answer discussion. Because of the expansive geography of the study area, each of the Forums forcuses on the issues and recommendations unique to each region.

Public Forum #2 Held for the NSA Crane JLUS

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, in cooperation with RADIUS Indiana, hosted the second public forums for the NSA Crane and the Lake Glendora Test Facility Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) on February 22, 2016 at 6 pm at the WestGate Academy, 13598 East Westgate Drive, Odon, IN 47562; February 23, 2016 at 7 pm at Sullivan Middle School located at 415 West Frakes Street, Sullivan, IN 47882; and February 24, 2016 at 6 pm at the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce located at 1116 16th Street, Bedford, IN 47421.

During this forum, the project team presented an overview of the JLUS, military missions at NSA Crane and the Lake Glendora Test Facility, and military mission footprints. Meeting attendees participated in a group exercise to prioritize issues identified to date by placing drafting dots on large issue sheets, as well as identifying additional issues on a blank issue sheet. After the group exercise, participants reconvened for a question and answer session with responses provided by the JLUS development team, the Indiana Office of Defense Development and representatives from Team Crane – NSA Crane, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Divison, and the Crane Army Ammunition Activity.

First Set of Public Forums Held!

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, in cooperation with RADIUS Indiana, hosted the first public forums for the NSA Crane and the Lake Glendora Test Facility Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 7 pm at the 4-H Fairgrounds located at 1301 E. County Road 75N, Sullivan, IN 47882; Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 5 pm at the Stellar Plaza located at 906 16th Street, Bedford, IN 47421; and Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 6 pm at the WestGate Academy, 13598 East Westgate Drive, Odon, IN 47562.

During this Forum, the project team was introduced; an overview of the JLUS planning process and 25 compatibility factors were provided; opportunities for public involvement discussed; and an overview presentation of NSA Crane given by the NSA Crane Commander, and Crane Army Ammunition Activity and Naval Surface Warfare Center staff. The public participated in a survey with results presented to the audience in real-time to gauge understanding of NSA Crane and provide insight into potential compatibility issues. Each survey was tailored to the region where the meeting took place. These forums begin an essential dialogue with the community on the JLUS and compatibility issues that will carry through the project into 2016.
